Reopening the State?

Back home after a closing shift at the good ole’ Publix. A bit steadier than usual today which made the day pass by faster. Deli Manager gave me a free sub card as a thank you for continuing to do the box meat orders each week, especially with our Assistant being out on vacation. A bit of a rough night last night, lots of emotions going back and forth, but things calmed down and all seems to be well. One day at a time applies to your entire life, not just the recovery aspect, and that’s what the two of us are doing. Read a couple articles about reopening portions of the State of Florida...not sure how I feel about it overall, but the changes coming to the theme parks that I read from the Economic Reopening Task Force for Orange County are drastic and will be something that we have never experienced before. I’d encourage you all to check out the proposals that the task force has suggested, it is definitely worth a read. Otherwise, decent day. Not too much anxiety. Waiting on Wawa ...

Slips/Trips/Falls

I have to say, being in recovery during this COVID-19 period has had its share of obstacles and challenges to overcome. As many of you know, I’m participating in Sarasota County’s DUI Court Program, a comprehensive 12 month treatment court that offers DUI offenders the opportunity to embrace recovery, get mental health counseling, obtain psychiatric treatment, and overall grow as individuals while under the supervision of the 12th Judicial Circuit. Mid March, around St. Patrick’s Day, it was announced that all treatment courts were closing for a two week period because of the virus. Alright, no big deal, a small change in the routine for a week or two but nothing I couldn’t handle. End of March, it’s extended to Mid April. One week into April, extended until the end of May. So, if I’m understanding this right, basically we’re going to unleash a bunch of (not all) folks in early recovery out into the world with zero accountability to anyone and just expect that everything will be fine...
